Working with ex-offenders

The CIC has run the courses in 13 UK prisons over a 10 year period, where they received positive feedback from a very large number of inmates and the support of numerous staff.

Our full-time facilitator, having lived experience of prison life and, perhaps even more importantly, understanding the challenges of life after prison, has led to a change in our focus and we are  currently offering the course to ex-offenders as they leave the prison environment.

In 2024 we were invited to trial the course in Approved Premises for ex-offenders and those on probation. This term applies to over 100 houses which are approved under Section 13 of the Offender Management Act 2007. Between them, they provide over 2,000 bed spaces, managed either by the Probation Service nationally or by independent organisations such as charities.

The trial was a notable success, with positive engagement and feedback from residents and staff.  Interest in the course has since grown and we currently offer this unique and innovative course in  a further seven Approved Premises, with the aim to reach many more in future years.
